All worcester match day

Worcester Rugby Community teams continued their league schedule this past weekend as the Shamrocks took on Hartford at home and the Bombers made the long trek up to Mad River in Vermont.

The Shamrocks moved to 1-1 in league play after a convincing win against Hartford, 61-6. Leading by a few tries at the half, the Shamrocks continued to focus on the long haul of the fall season and improved their structure further in the second half, led by back of the match Ashley Walker. Defensively, they controlled the midfield, allowing only two penalty kicks. The icing on the cake of a dominant match, a late try by Worcester newcomer Kaylah Seavey. A common theme between the Shamrocks and Men’s sides is the quality depth on the rosters. The Shamrocks utilized all 23 players on the panel and each played a role. Further evidence of the depth on the Shamrocks roster, they were able to play a full 80 minute b-side match.Seavey used the momentum of the late a-side try to begin an onslaught of tries for the Killer Bz. A stellar performance from many players who were in their first or second match with the club. The Shamrocks head east this upcoming Saturday to take on Charles River.

With the Men’s D2 side on their bye week, the Bombers and a travelling circus went up to Mad River. The boys from Vermont played a solid game and handed the Bombers their second defeat of the season, 38-14. The Bombers looked to build more cohesion on offense, something they hope will lead to more scoring in future matches. Some notable individual efforts highlighted the day for Worcester. Newcomer Mike Harvey was a stand out in the back line and named man of the match. Chase Hubbard and Conor Grene combined for a solid kicking effort, Grene kicking for field position and Hubbard converting the tries. One Hubbard boot was strong enough to make it through the uprights despite being tipped. With some lessons learned, the Bombers are on the road again this Saturday, heading to New London to face the defending D4 champions.

Also this Saturday, the D2 men head into Canton to take on the defending league champion Boston Irish Wolfhounds. Followers of the club will remember the 29-27 match these two played in the semifinals last fall, which ended Worcester’s season. The must-watch match kicks at 3 pm.

Your next opportunity to catch the Shamrocks and both Men's sides at home all in one day will be October 4th, mark your calendars!
